About Me
I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor whose practice centres around non-judgement and empathy. My aim is to create a safe space for my clients that allows them to feel comfortable enough to share the details of their lives with me in the hopes of improving their day-to-day functioning.
My counselling style is an integrated approach, meaning I borrow from many different therapies to tailor a counselling treatment which best fits each individual client’s needs and preferences. As a client-centred therapist, I believe that you are the expert of your own life and that therapy can help guide you to make decisions and conclusions which are the best for your particular set of circumstances.
I have experience working with individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds and those within the LGBTQ2IA+ community. I operate from an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and feminist approach as I believe that these aspects of life greatly impact both the development and maintenance of mental health concerns; addressing these components of our experience can be beneficial to your quality of life.
In particular, I tend to draw on cognitive-behavioural and dialectical approaches in therapy, as these evidence-based therapeutic modalities can be helpful in shifting your thoughts and behaviours by exploring varying perspectives of your concerns. Additionally, I incorporate mindfulness with a focus on emotional experience to help with many problems of which people seek therapy.
Depending on client needs, I may also incorporate aspects of EFT, existential therapy, psychodynamic therapy, exposure therapy, narrative therapy, and MBCT to help with your well being. In therapy, I also seek to include a component of feedback-informed treatment, to provide you the opportunity to share with me what you feel is working best for you, along with what may need to change. I include a session rating scale at the end of each session which can feel daunting to some, but believe me when I say, I encourage both positive and negative feedback and use it to better treat your concerns!
Overall, I believe that the therapeutic relationship is at the core of any counselling treatment. I aim to connect with each client in a genuine way, seeking to understand your problems or concerns from your perspective so that I can incorporate some of my psychological training to help you reach whatever goals you may have (or don’t have) in coming to therapy.
