Counselling in NE Calgary
Curio Counselling serves NE Calgary from our office at 1414 8 St SW — twelve to fifteen minutes south across the Centre Street Bridge from Bridgeland, Crescent Heights, Tuxedo Park, Renfrew, and the surrounding inner-NE neighbourhoods. For NE residents further out, every Curio therapist offers secure video sessions across Alberta. The inner-NE corridor brings a distinctive mix to our practice — young professionals, creative and queer communities, established families along the river-view streets, and Calgarians navigating identity, relationship, and career work in some of the city's most architecturally distinctive neighbourhoods.

Inner-NE Calgary covers a distinctive geographic and cultural pocket — from Bridgeland's heritage walkable density to Crescent Heights' view-corridor mix of heritage homes and condo blocks. The clients we hear from across this corridor often share particular themes: identity work (especially LGBTQ2S+ and faith-deconstruction journeys), young-to-mid-career professional pressure, the slow erosion of intimacy in dual-career relationships, and the kind of urban-but-residential lifestyle that draws thoughtful people to a part of the city that doesn't quite fit anywhere else's mould.
What unifies the work isn't the geography. It's the clinical fit. Each Curio therapist holds a Master of Counselling degree and is matched with each client based on the actual concern at hand. Several of our clinicians have lived experience in LGBTQ2S+ communities; all therapists practice from an affirming baseline.
NE Calgary Communities We Serve
Inner-NE residents typically reach our office in 10–15 minutes via the Centre Street Bridge. Each of the communities below has its own dedicated page with content tailored to that specific neighbourhood:
- Bridgeland & Riverside — affirming & identity-focused inner-NE
- Crescent Heights — view-corridor urban professionals & couples
NE Calgary extends well beyond our currently-published community pages, including Renfrew, Tuxedo Park, Mount Pleasant, Winston Heights, Highland Park, and the deeper-NE corridor. We work with clients from across the NE through both in-person and virtual care — the community pages above are simply the neighbourhoods where we publish dedicated content. If you live elsewhere in NE Calgary, browse our Calgary Communities master hub or book a free consultation to discuss fit.
A Central Office, Twelve Minutes South
Curio Counselling is at 1414 8 St SW, Suite 200, inside Mount Royal Place. From Bridgeland, Crescent Heights, Tuxedo Park, Mount Pleasant, or Renfrew, the fastest route is south across the Centre Street Bridge, then west on 4 Avenue or Memorial Drive — most clients reach us in 10–14 minutes outside of rush hour. The 8 Street MAX Purple LRT stop is a 4-minute walk from our office. Free 2-hour street parking on 14 and 15 Avenue SW; Vibe Parking Lot 75 directly behind the building ($4/hr).
Affirming Care That Doesn't Require a Briefing
For LGBTQ2S+ clients across the NE corridor, you won't need to explain the basics to your therapist. Several of our clinicians have lived experience and specific training in affirming care; the entire practice operates from an affirming baseline. We work with cis, trans, nonbinary, queer, monogamous, non-monogamous, and otherwise unconventional configurations on whatever the actual work happens to be — identity won't become the focus unless that's what you came in for.
In-Person or Virtual, Whichever Fits Your Week
For inner-NE residents, our office is twelve minutes away — but the river-crossing reluctance in February is real, and every Curio therapist offers PIPEDA-compliant video sessions. Many NE clients alternate in-person and virtual week-to-week. Research consistently shows that for most concerns — anxiety, depression, identity work, relationship work, trauma — online therapy produces outcomes comparable to in-person care.
Saddle Ridge, Martindale & Taradale
The northeast reaches well past the inner-city communities closest to our office. From Saddle Ridge, Martindale, Taradale, Falconridge and Coral Springs, Curio Counselling is a drive down Stoney Trail to Deerfoot Trail south — workable for occasional in-person sessions, and the reason most clients in these communities book secure video for their regular weekly appointment. We offer counselling in the northeast for anxiety, depression, trauma, couples work and family therapy, including therapists experienced in multicultural and multi-generational family dynamics.

Where is Curio Counselling located, and how do I reach you from NE Calgary?
Curio Counselling is at 1414 8 St SW, Suite 200, inside Mount Royal Place. From inner-NE (Bridgeland, Crescent Heights, Tuxedo Park, Mount Pleasant, Renfrew), we're 10–14 minutes south across the Centre Street Bridge. From deeper-NE neighbourhoods, 15–25 minutes. The 8 Street MAX Purple LRT stop is a 4-minute walk from our office.
How much does counselling cost in NE Calgary?
Individual sessions are 50 minutes at $200 with our Canadian Certified Counsellors (CCCs) and Counselling Therapists (CTs). Rates with Registered Psychologists align with the Psychologists' Association of Alberta fee schedule. Most extended health benefit plans reimburse some or all of the cost.
Does my insurance cover therapy?
Most extended health benefit plans in Alberta cover counselling. Registered Psychologists are typically covered by all major insurers; Canadian Certified Counsellors and Counselling Therapists are covered by Canada Life, Manulife, Sun Life, Greenshield, Blue Cross, and others. We provide insurance-ready receipts after every session.
Are your therapists actually queer-affirming, or is that just on the website?
Several of our clinicians have lived experience in LGBTQ2S+ communities; all therapists have training in affirming care. You won't be asked to explain the basics. Your identity won't become the focus of the work unless that's what you came in for. We work with cis, trans, nonbinary, queer, monogamous, non-monogamous, and otherwise unconventional configurations on whatever the actual work happens to be.
I'm working through faith deconstruction. Do you have therapists who understand that?
Yes. Several of our clinicians have specific experience with faith-deconstruction work — religious trauma, leaving high-control religious communities, the identity and relationship reorganization that comes with major belief shifts, and the grief that accompanies losing a community you once belonged to. The work doesn't require any particular ending point. We support what you're actually working through.
Do you offer virtual counselling?
Yes. Every Curio therapist offers secure PIPEDA-compliant video sessions across Alberta. Many NE clients alternate in-person and virtual depending on the week, the weather, and their work schedule. Research consistently shows online therapy produces outcomes comparable to in-person care for most concerns.
What therapy approaches do you offer?
Evidence-based modalities including CBT, ACT, EFT, IFS, Gottman Method for couples, EMDR for trauma, somatic therapy, narrative therapy, and play and art therapy for younger clients. We match each client with a therapist whose training and approach fits the work.
I work downtown. Can I do a session over lunch?
Realistically, lunch sessions require a 75-minute lunch. Sessions are 50 minutes, plus 10–15 minutes travel each way during weekday traffic. Most downtown-working NE clients prefer 5pm or 6pm sessions, or virtual sessions from their office or apartment. The free consultation can help you figure out what schedule actually works.
Do you offer evening or Saturday appointments?
Yes. Evening sessions during the week (latest start typically 8pm) and Saturday hours specifically accommodate working professionals and busy adults. Many couples book Saturday morning slots for joint sessions when weekday evenings are unreliable.
I've tried therapy before and it didn't help. Why try again?
Most often because the fit wasn't right. Therapy outcomes depend heavily on the therapeutic relationship — the right therapist for one client is wrong for another. The free consultation exists for this exact reason: to give you a chance to hear how your potential therapist thinks before committing.
